Green Justice

Vision

Our Vision is of an abundant world in which we are all faithful and grateful stewards. Our Mission is fourfold:

  • to foster the interconnectedness of all living things—the land, water, air, plants, animals and people;

  • to work to dismantle the systems that oppress this living community by causing environmental harm;

  • to learn from and be led by the communities directly impacted; and

  • to advocate for a society in which all beings are healthy and empowered to create a sustainable environment for all generations to come.

Our Strategies include advocacy, education, worship, and time spent outside. For more details, see our document, Green Justice Strategies here. For more details on our recent team activities, see our document, Green Justice Team Recent Activities here.

News

Data centers are popping up all over the US and the world. Large ones require enormous amounts of energy and a good amount of water. The companies building them tout them as sources of good jobs. But what are the impacts on local communities and our environment? Dona Aña County leadership has welcomed Project Jupiter, a gigantic data center, but it has yet to get approval from state agencies.

Kacey Hovden and Maslyn Locke of the NM Environmental Law Center will help us understand what Project Jupiter is, what impacts it will have on Southern NM, and what we can do to slow down or stop this juggernaut. Kacey and Maslyn are staff attorneys and lead NMELC’s Project Jupiter work.
